PosterJet and large format 3D prints

The State Russian Museum commissioned the Cologne specialists from Eisfeld Datentechnik to find a suitable large format printing process for the output of high-quality and extremely high-resolution 3D graphics. Through a contact in Cologne, word of the PosterJet developers' expertise in large format printing had spread as far as St. Petersburg.

In the reproduction of the works, a number of challenges regarding resolution, detail and presentation had to be mastered. Thus, the images should be almost free of reflections later on, but not lose their extraordinary character. Points such as contrast, sharpness, color fidelity, and representation of the finest nuances - to name but a few - were to be perfectly reflected in the printing of the images. Disturbing influences during viewing should be avoided completely by choosing a suitable post-production method if possible.

For the Cologne specialists, only one printing process came into question, namely production on a Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-6100 together with their self-developed software PosterJet. PosterJet served as a powerful RIP software to control the Canon large format printer. The special features of the software are its user-friendliness, high performance and perfect color management.  Especially the professional color management in PosterJet played a major role in the reproduction of the particularly demanding motifs, as it was important to output the works as true to original and detailed as possible. As material the Cologne-based company chose a glossy canvas in 1.5m width, which was optimized in terms of insensitivity, UV resistance and light reflection by a special post-production in such a way that the prints more than met all requirements of the Russian State Museum in Stank Petersburg.

About the company and software:

The company Eisfeld Datentechnik GmbH & Co. KG in Cologne has been working for over 30 years on the optimal control of large format printers from leading manufacturers such as Canon, Hewlett-Packard and Epson as well as on individual workflow solutions and innovative processes for the further processing of prints. In the last 3 years the company has increasingly specialized in the development of individual solutions for large format printing users.

PosterJet is considered to be one of the most powerful software solutions for digital large format printing worldwide when it comes to the processing of even the most complex files. An intuitive user interface and many auto-features enable every user - even without previous knowledge in LFP printing - to perfectly output all kinds of motifs on different materials. Special functionalities in the RIP software help to cover as many applications as possible that can be realized with LFP printers. Starting with poster printing, roll-ups, exhibition walls and canvas printing up to high-quality photo and art reproductions: there are practically no restrictions. The important element of this software for the use of really all media on different printers is certainly the professional color management. Because only a sophisticated color management system that is absolutely uncomplicated in its operation will lead to the desired print result in practice.
